If you’ve listened to the show then you know how much we like it when artists sample video game music. Well thanks to Owen Good of Kotaku we now know that the latest release from Weezy ‘I Am Not A Human Being II’ features a track that samples ‘Leonardo’s Inventions’.

I only just started playing Persona 4 yesterday but I definitely plan on spending more time with it. I feel like I’m in good company. Going to watch my “near” a little closer now too.

The Xbox 360 version of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker has been pulled from Xbox LIVE.

While publisher Konami hasn’t provided an update on the matter, reports have suggested

that players have been suffering from random freezing and console lock ups, which may explain its sudden disappearance from the Xbox 360 Games on Demand service.

The removal may very well be temporary with Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker still being listed on Xbox.com’sdatabase.

Peace Walker‘s HD port, which was priced at $19.99 when it was available on Xbox LIVE, is also included in theMetal Gear Solid HD Collection.

Supporters wondering exactly what they’ll be able to play when the open, Android-based Ouya console is released can wonder a little less today, as the indie-friendly console maker announced that OnLive’s library of hundreds of streamable games would be available at launch.

The move should somewhat allay concerns that Ouya’s TEGRA 3-based chipset won’t be able to compete with its more powerful console competition, since games running on OnLive’s servers can be as resource intensive as they need to be. Still, you’ll need a better-than-decent broadband connection to stream those games in a playable form, and even then you might notice some controller latency and video issues, if our previous OnLive tests are anything to go on.

What makes this move especially interesting is that OnLive currently sells its own HDTV MicroConsole and controller for $99, the same price as the multifunctional Ouya. It’s enough to make you wonder why OnLive has to charge so much for what is essentially a modem with an HDMI output (though, to be fair, OnLive does frequently offer free MicroConsole units as a perk with various game purchases).

Valve head—and one-time Microsoft employee—Gabe Newell has branded Windows 8 “a catastrophe for everyone in the PC space” at videogame conference Casual Connect in Seattle. The Valve boss continued, saying that in the fallout from Windows 8, “we’ll lose some of the top-tier PC/OEMs, who will exit the market. I think margins will be destroyed for a bunch of people.” Newell criticised Windows 8 while talking about the future of the gaming industry, and you can read everything he said at VentureBeat.

He argued that one of the last remaining things keeping people away from Linux was the lack of games. Valve is working to bring Left 4 Dead 2 and other Steam titles to Linux in a move that Newell describes as “a hedging strategy.” If

his predictions about Windows 8 come true, he says “it will be good to have alternatives to hedge against that eventuality.”

joined some 40 other companies, including the Gap, Google and Starbucks, along with several cities, including New York, Boston and Los Angeles, in filing a brief to support a legal challenge to the Defense of Marriage Act. MEDITATION increases our ability to tap into the hidden recesses of our brain that are usually outside the reach of our conscious awareness.

That’s according to Madelijn Strick of Utrecht University in the Netherlands and colleagues, who tested whether meditation has an effect on our ability to pick up subliminal messages.

The brain registers subliminal messages, but we are often unable to recall them consciously. To investigate, the team recruited 34 experienced practitioners of Zen meditation and randomly assigned them to either a meditation group or a control group. The meditation group was asked to meditate for 20 minutes in a session led by a professional Zen master. The control group was asked to merely relax for 20 minutes.

The volunteers were then asked 20 questions, each with three

or four correct answers – for instance: “Name one of the four seasons”. Just before the subjects saw the question on a computer screen one potential answer – such as “spring” – flashed up for a subliminal 16 milliseconds.

The meditation group gave 6.8 answers, on average, that matched the subliminal words, whereas the control group gave just 4.9 (Consciousness and Cognition, DOI: 10.1016/j.concog.2012.02.010).

Strick thinks that the explanation lies in the difference between what the brain is paying attention to and what we are conscious of. Meditators are potentially accessing more of what the brain has paid attention to than non-meditators, she says.

Microsoft is extending a deal for steeply discounted Xbox 360 consoles and Kinect motion controllers to Best Buy and GameStop stores in the United States, the company said this week.

In early May, the software giant began offering an Xbox 360 and Kinect bundle for $99 on its own online store and at Microsoft Stores to purchasers who also signed up for a two-year Xbox Live Gold Membership.

That same deal will be extended later this month at all Best Buy outlets in the U.S. and select GameStop stores, the company said.

“We’re excited to announce the expansion of this program, a new retail model that provides yet another way for consumers to get the complete Xbox 360, Kinect, and Xbox Live experience,” a Microsoft spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

A fire that caused an estimated $400 million (258.2 million pounds) in damage to a U.S. Navy nuclear-powered submarine docked in Maine may have been caused by a vacuum cleaner, authorities said on Wednesday.

The fire in the forward compartment – which includes crew living, command and control spaces and the torpedo room – of the USS Miami on May 23 took about 12 hours to extinguish and injured seven fire fighters.

“Preliminary findings indicate the fire started in a vacuum cleaner used to clean work sites at end of shift, and stored in an unoccupied space,” the shipyard’s public affairs office said in a release. Specific details are still being evaluated.

Initial conclusions reached through a formal Naval safety investigation could be released in the next two weeks.

According to Want China Times a riot occurred at Foxconn’s Chengdu plant in Sichuan on Monday night. According to the report the riot was caused by male employees at the plant who were upset at the way security guards at the plant apprehended a “thief.” While details on why the security guards apprehended the man were not clear, the situation soon went out of control and over 1,000 male workers went ballistic throwing bins, bottles, and fireworks from the upper floors of the building.

This particular Foxconn plant produces products from Apple like iPhones and iPads and produces products for Microsoft related to the Xbox 360, among an assortment of other products.

Hundreds of local police officers were called in to deal with the chaos, with dozens of workers being arrested, according to the report. The riot lasted about two hours.

Determined to keep tabs on New York City police officers’ “stop-and-frisk” campaign? There’s an app for that.

A new smartphone app created by the New York Civil Liberties Union, “Stop and Frisk Watch,” allows witnesses of the controversial New York City Police Department tactic to video and report incidents.

The NYCLU app has three main functions:

* “Record,” which allows bystanders to video an incident and send the video to the group with a shake of their phones;

* “Listen,” which alerts users when searches are being conducted near them; and

* “Report,” which allows users to send the NYCLU information about searches that were not filmed.

The app is intended for use by people witnessing a police encounter, not by individuals who are the subject of a police stop, the NYCLU said.

According to New Zealand publication Stuff, the FBI is on the defense after being accused in court by lawyers representing file sharing site Megaupload that it illegally exported data it seized from the company and its founder Kim Dotcom.

Kim Dotcom’s defense team claimed in a New Zealand Court that information taken from hard drives belonging to Dotcom and the Megaupload should have remained in New Zealand unless the FBI obtained “express permission” from local police. The FBI took data from seven hard drives that were seized by New Zealand police during a raid of Dotcom’s home in early 2012.

Google Inc is deploying a fleet of small, camera-equipped airplanes above several cities, the Internet search company’s latest step in its ambitious and sometimes controversial plan to create a digital map of the world.

Google plans to release the first three-dimensional maps for several cities by the end of the year, the company said at a news conference at its San Francisco offices on Wednesday.

Google declined to name the cities, but it showed a demonstration of a 3D map of San Francisco, in which a user can navigate around an aerial view of the city.

“We’re trying to create the illusion that you’re just flying over the city, almost as if you were in your own personal helicopter,” said Peter Birch, a product manager for Google Earth.

Google’s head of engineering for its maps product, Brian McClendon, said the company was using a fleet of airplanes owned and operated by contractors and flying exclusively for Google.

Asked about potential privacy implications, McClendon said the privacy issues were similar to all aerial imagery and that the type of 45-degree-angle pictures that the planes take have been used for a long time.

Google has used airplanes to collect aerial photos in the past, such as following the 2010 San Bruno, Calif. gas-line explosion, but the latest effort marks the first time the company will deploy the planes in a systemic manner to build a standard feature in one of its products.

By the end of the year, Google said it expects to have 3D map coverage for metropolitan areas with a combined population of 300 million people. The first 3D cityscape will be available within weeks.

A pair of women’s underwear that fell out of a Brazilian legislator’s briefcase on the floor of Congress two weeks ago has been incinerated after no one stepped forward to claim them, O Globo newspaper reported on Thursday.

A group of five legislators was rushing into the Chamber of Deputies to vote on a cybercrimes-related bill on the evening of May 15 when one of them apparently dropped the offending red and white panties, O Globo said.

Security guards quickly, but discreetly, swooped in to pick up the panties and turn them over to the chamber’s lost and found office. O Globo said security staff then decided to incinerate the underwear late on Wednesday – shortly after a story about the incident first appeared online, and went viral on Brazilian social media.

Legislators told O Globo they were aware of the incident, but sought to play it down.

“It must have been a trick they played on somebody,” said Marco Maia, the ruling Workers Party’s leader in the chamber.

“I was in the coffee shop and two colleagues called me in to show me the panties,” said Francisco Everardo Oliveira Silva, a professional clown known as “Tiririca” who won a seat in Brazil’s Congress in 2010 as a kind of protest candidate.

“We have a suspicion as to who the owner is,” Oliveira said, “but we’re not going to turn him in.”

One of the most mysterious problems in neuroscience is the link between brain chemistry and consciousness. How do changes in our neurochemistry influence our perception of the real world?

This question is hard to tackle for the obvious reason that experiments on humans are notoriously difficult to perform. Not only are the variables hard to pin down but changing them with psychoactive drugs under controlled conditions is fraught with practical, ethical, and moral dilemmas.

That’s why the majority of work examining the role of psychoactive drugs on neuropharmacological signaling mechanisms has been done on rats.

But there’s a revolution afoot. Today, Jeremy Coyle at the University of California Berkeley and a couple of pals say they’ve found a new way to study the role of psychoactive drugs on human perception.

These guys point out that in the contrast to the small amount of formal scientific literature in this area, there are large volumes of narrative descriptions of the effects of drugs posted on the web. Their idea is to mine these descriptions using machine learning techniques to identify common features which would allow a quantitative comparison of their effects.

The obvious place to start such an endeavour is a website called erowid.org, which is a well known and popular source of user generated information about the effects of all kinds of psychoactive substances.

A marijuana-smoking woman was arrested on Saturday in Phoenix after she accidentally drove away with her five-week-old son in a child safety seat on the roof of her vehicle, police said.

The baby fell off the car in the middle of an intersection and was found unharmed and strapped into the seat, said Phoenix police spokesman James Holmes.

The mother Catalina Clouser, 19, was booked into jail on child abuse and aggravated assault charges, he said. The infant was taken to a local hospital as a precaution and is in the custody of state Child Protective Services.

“It appears the suspect put the baby on the roof of the car and drove off, forgetting he was still on the roof,” Holmes said in a written statement.

Police said Clouser and her boyfriend had been smoking marijuana in a park and left with the toddler to buy beer late on Friday night. Officers stopped the car and the boyfriend was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence while driving with the baby in the 2000 Ford Focus.

Police learned that Clouser was so upset about the arrest that she drove to a friend’s home and “admittedly smoked one or two additional bowls of marijuana,” Holmes said.

The 50th reunion for Harvard’s University’s undergraduate class of 1962 took a strange turn when Ted Kaczynski, the year’s most infamous graduate, sent in a status update that was published in the alumni book.

Kaczynski, better known as the Unabomber, was convicted in 1998 of killing three people and injuring 23 others in a mail bombing campaign against modern technology that was waged for almost two decades.

He is jailed for life in the maximum security prison in Florence, Colorado, and thus unable to join hundreds of former Harvard and Radcliffe classmates for four days of events in Cambridge, Massachusetts, that wrap up on Thursday.

In the alumni guide, Kaczynski, 70, listed his occupation as “prisoner.” Under awards, he notes “Eight life sentences, issued by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California, 1998.”

Not to be outshone by the achievements of other classmates, Kaczynski also listed his collection of anti-technological rants, “Technological Slavery: The Collected Writings of Theodore J. Kaczynski, a.k.a. ‘The Unabomber.’” The book was published in 2010 by Feral House.

A pregnant woman was shot with a stun gun by Chicago police during a dispute over a parking ticket, myFOXchicago.com reported Wednesday.

Tiffany Rent — who is not handicapped, but is eight months pregnant — was ticketed for parking in a handicapped spot in the parking lot of a Roseland Walgreens, at 103rd and Michigan Ave. She tore up the ticket, threw it at the officer and tried to take off, according to police.

The officer used a stun gun on Rent, 30, to subdue her. Her family told the Chicago Tribune she was still seated in her vehicle when the stun gun was fired during Tuesday night’s incident.

Rent’s fiance Joseph Hobbs, who is also the father of the baby, was in the car at the time and was arrested after getting involved in the confrontation. Rent’s young son and daughter, ages nine and three, also witnessed the incident.

The police department said the officer may not have known Rent was pregnant. She was taken to Roseland Hospital after a female officer noticed she was pregnant on the scene.

Organizers of the Miss USA contest on Wednesday raised questions about the credibility of Miss Pennsylvania, a contestant who said this week she was resigning her crown because she believed the contest is rigged.

Sheena Monnin, who represented Pennsylvania in the pageant staged in Las Vegas on Sunday but did not place in the top 16, said on Facebook on Monday she could “no longer be affiliated in any way with an organization I consider to be fraudulent, lacking in morals, inconsistent, and in many ways trashy.”

A fellow contestant claimed to have seen a list of the top five winners days before the pageant took place, she wrote in a separate Facebook post on Tuesday.

The Miss Universe Organization said it investigated her claims and found them groundless. The Miss USA winner goes on to represent the nation in the Miss Universe competition.

The organization released a copy of an e-mail it said was sent by Monnin to a regional organizer in which she said she was resigning as Miss Pennsylvania because she objected to a recent decision by organizers to allow transgendered contestants to take part, saying it goes against her “moral fiber.”

“Today she has changed her story by publicly making false accusations claiming that the pageant was fixed,” the organization said in a statement.

On Wednesday, real estate developer Donald Trump, a co-owner of the Miss Universe Organization, called Monnin’s allegations “ridiculous” and suggested she was a poor loser.

A morbidly obese woman’s corpse caused a crematorium in Austria to burst into flames, The Daily Mail reports.

Due to the woman’s substantial mass of body fat, the oven overheated, sparking a fire in the filter reaching upward of 570 degrees Fahrenheit. The fire grew and was soon out of control.

As thick black smoke poured out of the building, firemen arrived to combat the flames. They succeeded in preventing the fire from spreading.

The firemen may have bested the fire, but the episode left its mark.

A nauseating blanket of scorched grease coated the firemen’s suits and the special breathing systems each man had to wear.

The woman reportedly weighed around 440 lbs.

The fire has sparked discussion of weight limits for cremation in Austria.

Elvis Presley, the late king of rock’n'roll, is to be virtually resurrected, following in the footsteps of a hologram of late rapper Tupac Shakur, production company Digital Domain Media Group said on Wednesday.

The “Hound Dog” singer, who died in 1977 aged 42, will be brought back in a virtual performance by the digital production company, which stunned nearly 90,000 fans with a life-like performing Tupac hologram at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April.

Digital Domain said they are planning multiple virtual Elvis likenesses across various platforms, including live shows, TV and online, and are working in partnership with Elvis Presley Enterprises, which manages the late singer’s brand.

“This is a new and exciting way to bring the magic and music of Elvis Presley to life. His lifelong fans will be thrilled all over again and new audiences will discover the electric experience of Elvis the performer,” Jack Soden, president and chief executive of Elvis Presley Enterprises, said in a statement.

A massive, 60-page omnibus bill that drastically limits abortion access and could shut down all abortion clinics in the state is being rushed through the Michigan State House of Representatives on Thursday.

The bill was introduced just last week, but lawmakers held a hearing for it on Thursday morning and are sending it to a full House vote on Thursday afternoon. A spokesperson for Planned Parenthood Mid and South Michigan said about 90 people showed up at the Health Policy Committee hearing to testify against the bill, but Committee Chair Gail Haines (R-Waterford) abruptly ended the hearing and cut off all testimony after a Michigan Right to Life spokesperson and only a few others were able to speak.

“We had a lot of doctors there and members of the committee asking questions about what the full ramifications of a lot of these provisions could be, and quite frankly a lot of folks couldn’t answer them,” said Meghan Groen, a spokesperson for PPMSM.

Specifically, the omnibus bill would criminalize all abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, without exceptions for rape victims, the health of the woman or in cases where there is a severe fetal anomaly. It would require health centers that provide abortions to have surgery rooms, even when they don’t provide surgical abortions. It would require doctors to be present for medication abortions and to screen women for “coercion” before providing an abortion, and it would create new regulations for the disposal of fetal remains.
